Bistro 22 which is located on Highway 22 in Lake Zurich is one of the very best restaurants in Lake County. Kent, and Hugo are fantastic hosts who go the full ten yards to make sure every one of their guests is satisfied each night.
The French bistro style cooking is inspired, and the menu changes on a seasonal basis to make sure that the customer base never gets bored with the restaurants offerings. They offer an extensive wine list, and the offering from the bar will never disappoint.
Hot and cold appetizers include some excellent choices. Pan-seared crab cake leads the roster with an accompanying rouille that offers a little bit of peppery bite. The menu's mussels, a French staple, are lusciously plump, almost creamy. Their simmered broth brings together essences of tomatoes, garlic and shallots with herbs, butter and white wine.
As for entrees, bistro classics include the likes of coq au vin, braised in red wine with pearl onions, mushrooms and roasted potatoes. Black pheasant brings something more elegant, with spaetzle and what the French call a hunter's sauce with its woodsy flavor. Steak frites gets embellishment with intense cognac peppercorn sauce while rack of lamb is treated to the likes of rosemary and honey mustard, finished with parsley and garlic.
They are also known for their Lumiere menu which consists of small portions at a small price. Customers can mix and match the seasonal offerings. They are perfect for when you just want a taste, or you are not hungry enough for a full meal.
We love sitting at the bar for dinner when there is just two of us. The food is great, the conversation superb, and the attention to detail is great to find out in the suburbs. We had fresh softshell crab the other night served on cous cous with a butter sauce which was to die for.
Bistro 22 never disappoints so make it a part of your regular dining schedule.
